FRGMT vs MediaZilla

A MediaZilla alternative for studios that deliver photos too.

MediaZilla is a video delivery platform with TV apps and built-in sales. FRGMT adds the photos, the review round and a library, and charges for the storage you keep rather than what you upload each year.

The problem

An upload quota counts every revision. Storage only counts what you keep.

MediaZilla delivers video in branded presentations with menus, gives the viewer lifetime access, and ships apps for the screens a client watches on.

Its plans are priced by how much you upload each year, from 50 GB a year on Starter to 600 GB a year on Pro. Every new cut, every re-export and every replaced master spends quota, and going past it is billed by the gigabyte.

FRGMT charges for storage. Replace a cut and delete the old one, and the space comes back. A Cinema page for video delivery for clients, a Gallery for the photos from the same shoot, React for the review round and an embed for your site.

All of it sits in one library, at no extra cost. More on video delivery for videographers.

Where each one wins

Pick by the job, not the logo.

MediaZilla

MediaZilla wins if viewers watch on a TV, or pay to watch.

  • TV apps.Native apps for smart TVs, phones and tablets. FRGMT has no TV apps.
  • Selling video.A paywall for full-project sales and paid add-ons inside the presentation. FRGMT sells none.
  • Lifetime client access.Delivered projects stay available to the viewer.
FRGMT

FRGMT wins if you deliver more than video.

  • Photos in the same delivery.Galleries with Selects and prints, from the same folder.
  • Review before it ships.Timecoded notes on every plan, with no reviewer accounts.
  • No upload quota.Revisions do not spend a yearly allowance.
  • A real library.Nested folders, tags and upload links.
  • Monthly billing on every paid plan.Or annual, at up to 20% less.

MediaZilla Pro$51 a month billed annually

One folder, every delivery

The video and the photos ship from the same place.

  • Photos under the video.A Cinema page shows the stills from the same folder below the player.
  • Review on the same files.A React view runs the review round before the final ships.
  • Nothing uploaded twice.Every delivery uses the same files.

Moving over

Bring your masters across at full resolution.

FRGMT does not connect to MediaZilla directly. Your files come across in three steps.

  1. Gather your masters.

Download the originals, or start from the exports on your own drives.

  2. Upload or import.

Upload directly at up to 100 GB per file, or import from Dropbox or Google Drive on Starter and above.

  3. Keep working.

Imports run in the background. Dropbox brings whole folders; Google Drive brings the files you pick.

Questions

MediaZilla, answered.

How much does MediaZilla cost?

MediaZilla Starter is $21 a month billed annually with 50 GB a year of uploads, Growth is $37 a month billed annually or $44 billed monthly with 100 GB a year, and Pro is $51 billed annually or $61 billed monthly with 600 GB a year for up to two users. Uploads past the quota are billed per gigabyte.

Does MediaZilla have TV apps?

Yes: MediaZilla lists native apps for iOS, Android and smart TVs, available on Apple, Amazon, Samsung, Google, Roku and LG, which makes it the stronger choice when your clients expect to watch a delivery on the living room screen rather than on a laptop or a phone. FRGMT has no TV apps.

Can you sell videos on FRGMT?

No: FRGMT has no paywall, pay per view or paid downloads, because it is built for work a client commissioned rather than recordings sold to the public, and it spends that effort on review, photo galleries and a library instead of a checkout page. FRGMT does sell prints of photos through WHCC, on Starter and above.

What is a MediaZilla upload quota?

Each MediaZilla plan includes a fixed amount of upload per year, from 50 GB a year on Starter to 600 GB a year on Pro, and every upload counts against it, including new cuts and replaced files, with anything past the quota billed per gigabyte, $3.75 per GB on Starter. FRGMT counts the storage you keep, so deleting an old cut frees the space.

What is a good MediaZilla alternative?

If you deliver photos as well as video, run a review round before the final version ships, or are tired of an upload quota that counts every revision, look for a platform that does all three from one library and charges only for the storage you keep. FRGMT does, from $12 a month billed annually.
